Before you start reading the rest of this article, I am going to ask you to do a few things for me. The first one is to read this article with an open mind. Be opened to the fact that it is written to help someone out there who has been trying everything yet with no results. You are that someone. Second, realise that since you want your business or relationship or whatever it is to grow in a positive direction, reject those negative thoughts that come against your mind that you don’t need this or that it is not true. How do I know that what I am going to talk about in this article is true and it works? It is because I and billions around have put it to work and thus testify to the same successful result. So let us begin.
CONFIDENCE. It is a beautiful word that has so many meanings, definitions and attitudes attached to it that the world has forgotten, lost or rather never knew the true meaning of it. I have great news for you though because throughout this article your spirit will be filled with great knowledge of what true confidence really is and why it will never fail you. Before we do that, how do we define confidence today? The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary describes confidence in 4 ways. 1) Is the belief in others: the feeling that you can trust, believe in and be sure about the abilities or good qualities of somebody/something. 2) Is the belief in yourself: a belief in your own ability to do things and be successful. 3) Is Feeling certain: the feeling that you are certain about something. 4) Is trust: a feeling of trust that somebody will keep information private. These definitions are great and have one thing in common. Have you spotted it yet? Three out of four of these definitions use the word: ‘feeling.’
Confidence should never be placed on our feelings. Feelings can great and certainly helpful at times, but sometimes they are unpredictable and you never know when they will change. For example: one day you might be feeling confident about a thing and then the next day, those confident feelings you had yesterday for the same thing have now gone. Feelings are FICKLE: That means you never know what they are going to be from one day to the next. My conclusion on feelings is: confidence does not come from feeling confident or not feeling confident about something or someone. It comes from KNOWING that you are Confident and therefore BEING confident. You don’t have to feel confident to be confident. KNOW YOU ARE CONFIDENT AND YOU WILL ACT THAT WAY. Now, already I know you are asking yourself isn’t this self confidence? Well not really. Before I explain what I mean let me first explain to you what self confidence is and why it does not work, or at times it fails us.
Self confidence is built on an idea that we as individual can do or achieve a thing independent of God or anybody else. Although in some case you or others have had some success in an area for a while, it does not mean there is long lasting success. Firstly, self confidence does not last long depending on the results it has or has not caused in that when something goes wrong people can lose confidence which means our feeling can thus play tricks on us leading us to make the wrong decisions. Therefore, it cannot be depended on and it can cause us to assume ability or promote ourselves with the deception we have gotten from our self confidence. Self Confidence can cause us to mistreat others in that in order for some people to be confident they have to put other people down which is therefore not real confidence because it is built and fed by fear. Some self confidence is triggered by certain substances such as alcohol, drugs, prideful thoughts about us and others and many more. Self confidence can cause pressure, in that we have to maintain and keep things going even though we know that we are unable too, which causes us to be phoney with ourselves and with others. And finally self confidence in yourself or in others will certainly come with disappointments. Have ever been surprised at yourself or somebody you trusted who did or said something you never thought you or they would do or say? The answer is yes; we’ve all had situations like where it looks like this thing has crept up on us because we never saw it coming.
The reason why we really get disappointed with people or with ourselves is because human beings without God are just that, human. Thus liable to make mistakes or worse surprise you with words or action. PLACE YOUR CONFIDENCE THEREFORE IN JESUS CHRIST. Let me tell you why. God has DIVINE KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM that is greater than our own; He never changes unlike people or our feelings which change like the weather. Therefore, he is faithful and just to be counted upon. Also since he created you and knows everything about you and loves you, it pleases him when you put your confidence in him. God wants to do more things for you more than you can imagine for it pleases him. Hoping and trusting in God never disappoint us. Let me explain the last point in more detail because one might say: “but what I have trusted God and I have been disappointed”. I have truth and reality for you because real faith and trust or confidence in God will always produce a joy and an internal rest where you know that you know that God is in control and because of that you will always win. When you believe in him and place your confidence in him; it means you have taken on your responsibility which is to trust in him and have left the rest to God. Therefore, because he is God; he cannot fail you, and if you are really giving him all your confidence and trust you will know always triumph. So, it is not so much about having confidence; rather it is where you place your confidence. I am encouraging you not to place it on yourself, others, or in a things (material things etc) but rather in God who is your rock in all.
You see the reason why it is safer and better for you to place your trust in him is that it takes the responsibility of taking care of yourself out of your hands and into the hands of who it belongs to. Self confidence will always limit you because as a human your ability or that of others can only take you so far before things start falling apart, but with you on God’s side you are able to have positive results all the time, and do more by the power of God. This is what I mean when I say self confidence does not work because depending on our own ability causes disappoints and great mistakes that sometime cannot be reversed. God says you are confident because his spirit lives in you. So whether you are feeling confident on a particular day or not; knowing that you have great confidence inside because of God; will help you to perform, speak or confront people or situations with peace and boldness. So you don’t have to feel confident to be confident rather place your confidence in Christ and his word and you will know that things will always work out or your good because of him. Because God is perfect, faithful, and good, he can be depended upon greatly and we need him so we can function correctly in this world.
So swap your self confidence and place your trust and confidence in him. When our confidence is in God and his word; we can do things easily and achieve more, because trusting in him realises power on our behalf for things to work out in our favour.
